I attended the junior school in Poolstock 1948 to 1954. The one with Mrs Fairhurst, Mrs Disley, Mr Smith and Headmaster Mr Horrocks. Although it was next to St. James Church it was called Poolstock Church of England School

St. James School was in Poolstock Lane, Worsley Mesnes.

aurora,
At last, someone who actually knows the correct name of the school they went to! I've been waiting for someone to correct the former pupils of Poolstock C E school who have always thought they went to St.James junior school. With Mr T Horrocks Headmaster.
St.James c of e was in Worsley Mesnes, with Mr. Joel Magraw headmaster.

I went to St James Worsley Mesnes in the late 50's. Miss Hayworth was at my mums 80th birthday some years ago and she remembered so many names of the children that she taught throughout her career. Sadly she died about 6 years ago and I believe Brian Leigh is no longer with us, he taught me also.

Not Poolstock St James but I went to St James in clifton st which is a community centre (infants) and a mosque (juniors)
I was there 1960-1967 - Teachers I rememeber were Mr Leigh, Mr Audrey, Mrs Preston, Miss Hayworth and Mrs Clayton. Soome memories include prize days and school plays including Taming of the Shrew (I played a drunk) and songs from Mary Poppins! School trips to Chester zoo and New Brighton. Also going to nearby shops for sweets Pughs and Slaters.

I am one of the Higham twins (Kathy)

My "twister" Carole and our elder brother David went to Poolstock C of E School

I remember well the nativity play that we did and the swimming every week at Wigan Baths

The School encouraged all it's pupils and rejoiced in their achievements. I remember the papers coming down to take our photos every time we won a trophy or certificates for swimming

Happy Times

I left Poolstock C of E School in 1952. I remember Mr. Smith as if it were yesterday. I was in the same class as Harry Morgan, Maurice Hewitt, Alan Gaskell, Kenny Murdock, Charlie Dunn, John Robinson, Kevin Harrison, oh, and there were some girls too. Eileen Cawley, Eileen Hodgkiss, Cynthia Holden, Jean Calderbank and a lot more of course.

But, apart from Harry Morgan, who I see from time to time, where are they? I know that Eileen Hodgkiss died just a few years ago.

They were happy times for me. I loved every minute of it.

Jim Latham.

Hi just reading through all these threads and i am very surprised no one recalled a Anne Winstanley , her older brother Alan also went to the school were Mr ,Leigh was there ,Alan was the football team captain for 2/3 years under Mr Leigh ,he took Alan under his wing so to speak ,for he brought me my first football boots , on the team were Geoff & Barry Lawless , Malcom Bishop was our goalkeeper , Peter Massey was on the team along with Worthington ? Can anyone else name more members of the school team? Me (Alan ) and Geoff Lawless were chosen to represent WIGAN TOWN TEAM. One time Mr.Leigh took us out of school one time i recall we went to his house in Guildford Crescent ,Beech Hill , then after he and his wife gave us some beans -on-toast we then drove to Atherton to Play another Town team , we won 5-0 after match and we had changed we were given hot potato pie & red cabbage ,then he drone Geoff and i all way home , next day we both got a thunderous applause from all the school at assembly Great Memories . But i would like to hear from more of you also my sister ANNE WINSTANLEY MARRIED NAME HAYES ,Still lives in WALPOLE AVENUE . I HAVE COME HOME AND LIVE IN CARR LANE ,FULL CIRCLE !!!!!!!
